Facelift

What is it?

Facelift or rythidectomy, is the plastic facial surgery procedure intended to give a patient a more youthful appearance. It involves the removal of loose facial skin, the tightening of underlying facial tissues, and sometimes facial liposuction. The result of a facelift surgery is the reversal of the normal effects of gravity that come with aging.

How is it done?

A facelift is usually performed with incisions close to the hairline and behind the ears. Sometimes incisions are made on the scalp. After the incisions are made, skin is separated from facial muscles and, to the discretion of the surgeon, muscles are tightened, liposuction is performed and loose skin is either repositioned or removed.

Many different facelift techniques are available nowadays, involving lifts at different levels. The most adequate for you depends, as with any other cosmetic surgery, on your particular case.

Is it for me?

Facelift is a surgery usually performed to reverse the effects of gravity on the skin due to normal aging. These cosmetic procedures are usually effective in improving overall appearance of areas under the direct influence of the incisions, such as cheeks and neck (neck lift). Facelift is not very useful, however, for correcting wrinkles around other regions such as mouth and nose.
